Education for poor

Since nearly a third if not half the urban population in India lives in slums, DRAG asked itself : how can the urban poor get out of the poverty trap. One way of upward mobility for the children of the marginalised is through education. That at least gives them a fighting chance of survival.

DRAG has attempted and at times succeeded, with the help of able staff from England and elsewhere in Europe to introduce and carry through innovative play- way methods of instruction. This has attracted a large number of school drop- outs , many of whom have gone back to the government school that neighbour`s ours.

But more than that we enable our primary school leavers through the help of scholarships to join mainstream education, Having acquired basic literacy levels at the DRAG school they are eligible to secure admission to government or private schools. As fees are often required to secure admission, DRAG provides them with that facility.
