Gautam Vohra was educated at the Doon School and King`s College, London University. He won the World Press Institute fellowship in 1972- 73 that enabled him to cover for his paper the Nixon McGovern presidential campaign, report on Allende`s Chile and visit war ravaged Vietnam and Kampuchea.

He has authored 18 books , largely on development related issues. His PhD thesis on The Changing Nature of the New Political Leadership was the first. His latest is the book on travel, Discovering New Horizons that disclose his wanderings in the Arctic, the Amazon, the Galapagos. The book of verse that he wrote at age 18 did not make the best seller list.

Gautam established DRAG in 1988. The first project was in Pen taluka Raigad district of Maharashtra among the Katkari and Thakkar adivasis where the NGO sought to implement the government`s anti- poverty programmes. In Haryana it has recovered wasteland in Manger village nestled in the Aravallis of Faridabad district. DRAG runs a women centre and a school for the deprived in West Delhi.
